Hanover Cube opens for business

Hanover Cube, a new project management company set up by former directors at Jones Lang LaSalle, has taken over the project management role at Scottish Widows and Teachers' office development at Royex House, Aldermanbury Square, London, EC2. Hanover Cube opened for business on 1st November 2004 and is based in the West End. - (11-11-2004)

Royex House plans submitted

Scottish Widows has submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of Royex House in Aldermanbury Square, London EC2. Royex House is a 'classic' slab 1960's building in steel and blue glass designed by Richard Seifert. The proposed 17-storey replacement tower has been designed by Eric Parry architects. Subject to planning permission the development could be on-site in late 2003 for completion in late 2005 or early 2006. - (04-03-2002)

Mercer's scheme approved

The Mercers Company and Scottish Provident Institution have received planning approval for the redevelopment of a site on the corner of Cheapside and Ironmongers Lane, London EC2. The site incorporates Becket House at 81-90 Cheapside, 36-37 Old Jewry, the Mercers Hall, Daunsey House, 4, 4a, 4b and 5 Frederick Place, and 4 Ironmongers Lane. Siddell Gibson has designed a new 10-strorey building of 20,114 sq m (216,507 sq ft) gross, with 9,407 sq m (101,256 sq ft) net of offices and 1,836 sq m (19,762 sq ft) of retail space. - (03-03-2002)

140 Aldersgate green light

Whitecliff Investments and Scottish Widows have gained planning consent for the speculative redevelopment of the vacant 140 Aldersgate Street, London EC1A 4JQ with an eight-storey office and retail block. The 12,800 sq m (138,000 sq ft) building will include 11,000 sq m (122,000 sq ft) of offices and 1,500 sq m (16,000 sq ft) of retail space. A construction start has been set for April 2002. Court of Common Council agrees Heron scheme

The Corporation of London's Court of Common Council has voted in favour of the planning committee's recommendation that permission be granted to Heron's 110 Bishopsgate skyscraper in EC3. The building at 43-storeys will become the City's tallest tower. The secretary of state, John Prescott, has three weeks to call the scheme in and English Heritage is said to be carrying on its campaign to stop the proposed development. - (02-02-2001)

MEPC sells Alban Gate

MEPC, the property company, has sold Alban Gate, London Wall, London EC2 for around £157m to CIT (Capital and Income Trust). Alban Gate is a 34,373 sq m (370,000 sq ft) building largely occupied by Chase Manhattan, the US bank. MEPC is also to dispose of its Scottish subsidiary, Caledonian Land for a further £150m. The sales are part of MEPC's disposal programme, which will leave the company focussed on its business park developments in Basingstoke, Warrington, Cambridge, Abingdon and Leavesden. - (05-11-2000)

'Gerkin' may face judicial review

The Baltic Exchange is said to have pledged financial support to a legal challenge by Save Britain's Heritage to John Prescott's decision not to hold a public inquiry into the proposals to demolish the Grade II listed Baltic Exchange building in St Mary Axe, London EC3 and replace it with a Foster & Partners' designed skyscraper, nicknamed the 'Gerkin'. Save is understood to have just lodged an application to the High Court seeking leave to apply for a judicial review over the decision. - (01-10-2000)
